Must do- eat Jalebi with Milk at small shops in Badrinath and take snan (holy bath) in Tapt kund  Badrinath, one of the most significant religious destinations located in foothills of Himalaya, North part of Uttarakhand State of India. The most important sacred places of Hindu religion called Char Dhama are Dwara Puri (East) in Gujarat, Jagan nath (West) in Orissa, Badrinath (North) in Uttarakhand,  and Rameshwarm (South) in Tamil Nadu.Over the years the name Chota Char Dham also emerged and four holy sites of Garhwal Himalaya are named as Char Dham of North India consist of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath. Badrinath Dham contains the highest prestigious reputation in Char Dhama. Badrinath Dhama is located in the shrine of Mt. Nar Narayana in Chamoli district.
Badrinath is also well known by the name of Tapobhumi “A holy land of meditation”. it is said that Lord Vishnu did penance at Badrinath which has a high altitude at 10248 feet above sea level. Goddess Mahalaxami provided him shelter in the guise of Badari tree to prevent from hostile weather of Great Himalayas.  

The present temple was built by the kings of Garhwal on the bank of Alaknanada. On the way to Badrinath one can also take ‘Darshan’ of many other pilgrim places like Panch Prayag (Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karanaprayag, Nandaprayag or Vishnuprayag), Pandukeswar (place where king Pandu and queen Madodari did Tapsya and where Pandavas stayed during their journey to heaven) and Hanuman Chatti, the site where Lord Hanuman disguised as monkey.
From Badrinath, there is also way to Sathpanth. It is said that Pandwas went to heaven following this path.

Badrinath temple is directly connected to road transport hence problems regarding oxygen are very rare but if you are planning to trek further or stay longer, it is always adviceable to buy an oxygen cylinder. Especially for elder members, kids of the families and patient of asthma should carry oxygen cylinder.

Best time to Visit- from May to October, except Monsoons.  As Badrinath is situated at very high altitude of Garhwal Himailya in Uttrakhand which is very prone to heavy rain, snowfall and land sliding during Mansoons season.Therefore, aovid visiting it during Monsoons. The temple remains open form May first week to November second week.

Before Starting your pilgrimage: 
  •  Warm cloths, monkey cap, gloves, glasses, comfortable shoes, torch, socks, camera, matchbox are very much required. Guys don’t forget Vaseline or any other cold crème, Lip guard etc.
  • Though doctor facilities are available in Barinath Dhama it is always advisable to carry ”First Aid box”. Otherwise at least carry medicine for cold, fever and cough and diarrhea, pain killer etc.
  • Damas are located at high altitude of Himalayas. Dehydration and lack of oxygen can trouble pilgrim.
